IOSHM (Mauritius) - About Us

The Institution of Occupational Safety & Health Management (IOSHM) first known as the Association of Health and Safety Managers was founded in 1981 and is registered under the Registration of Association Act 1978. It is the oldest and most representative non-governmental and non-profit organisation grouping occupational safety and health officers and safety professionals in Mauritius.

Singapore Accord

IOSHM joined more than 40 organisations worldwide in the landmark signing of the Singapore Accord. The Accord, spearheaded by the International Network of Safety and Health Practitioner Organisations (INSHPO), presents the OHS Professional Capability Framework as a global framework for the occupational safety and health professional that will increase the effectiveness and impact of this role in every industry.

The OHS Professional Capability Framework received global support from organisations such as the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

IOSHM is a full Member of INSHPO. See the website HERE.

COVID-19

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) published a report for World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2020 - In the face of a pandemic: Ensuring Safety and Health at Work

The ILO report brings out the particular role of occupational safety and health professionals to:

•   Facilitate access to reliable information

•   Promote understanding of the disease and              its symptoms

•   Support in the risk assessment and                           management process (i.e. identification of               infectious and non-infectious hazards and                 assessment of associated risks; adoption of             preventive and control measures; monitoring           and review)

•    Help in development or update of plans for the         prevention, containment, mitigation and                   recovery

As an echo box, this special part of our webpage is thus dedicated to COVID-19. It provides reliable information about the evolving coronavirus pandemic. The information also includes links to other reliable resources.
